Paper Wasps

Paper wasps are 3/4 inch to 1 inch long, slender, and narrow-waisted with smoky black wings that they fold lengthwise when at rest. The wasps are usually brown with yellow markings on the head and thorax and bands on the abdomen. Paper wasps should not be confused with yellow jackets and bald-faced hornets. Their nests are open, and their cells are not covered with caps.
